At the apex of his career at Liverpool, Luis Suarez was by far and away the best player in the Premier League. It was a different environment back then at Liverpool. The Uruguayan had to carry the Reds on his back single-handedly at times. But it’s that ability which set him above the rest.
It’s no surprise that he is still going strong playing for the Uruguay national team and now having signed to Inter Miami to play alongside Lionel Messi. Suarez is simply a top professional, and a player who absolutely loves the game.
Meanwhile, at Liverpool there is a player who is following in his footsteps, who very much has shades of Suarez at his very best. That is according to former Liverpool forward, John Aldridge at least. He’s been talking about a Liverpool forward who reminds him of Suarez.

John Aldridge on Darwin Nunez
John Aldridge writing in his Liverpool ECHO column was full of praise for Darwin Nunez after his latest performance against Burnley. The 24-year-old dazzled on the pitch once again, scoring a sensational header to increase his tally to 23 goal contributions already this season.
And Aldridge was impressed by Nunez, who he thought showed shades of Luis Suarez.
“He is a bag of tricks and is very much like Luis Suarez at times in the way he refuses to ever give up. He is fearless, puts in a real shift and throws his head in where it hurts, as evidenced by the goal. He was a real handful all day for Burnley,” Aldridge wrote.
Nunez has been likened to Suarez from the moment he has arrived at Anfield. It’s not just the fact that he is Uruguayan just like the former Liverpool cult hero. But as Aldridge has pointed out there are similarities between them on the pitch as well.
They’ve both got that same drive and determination. The kind of drive and determination that fans absolutely adore. Which is why Nunez is one of the fan favourites at Anfield right now.
