£55m player knows Liverpool are looking at signing him, he’s ‘open’ to move

Without a sporting director or a manager for the summer, nobody knows quite what Liverpool will do in the transfer market.

Despite the lack of key personnel though, the Reds are going to have to start laying the groundwork. Things can’t stop completely.

To that end, links have continued to arise for a number of players. One of those is Bayern Munich forward Leroy Sane, who’s contract is due to expire in 2025.

And although journalist Fabrizio Romano said he was baffled by the links yesterday, his colleague Christian Falk has given a very different update for The Daily Briefing today.

“Leroy Sane is aware that he is on the Reds’ list if Mohamed Salah leaves for Saudi Arabia,” says Falk.

“His contract in Munich runs until 2025. His future is open. He changed also his management a few weeks ago. He doesn’t rule out a transfer in the summer.”

Sane aware of Liverpool interest

There are plenty who will question exactly how Liverpool can be doing any kind of business, or even thinking about any kind of business, without a sporting director and a manager.

And indeed, it must be said that it makes things much more tricky.

However, there is so much that goes into scouting and recruitment these days. Liverpool will have their targets regardless of what’s going on with successors for Jorg Schmadtke and Jurgen Klopp. It doesn’t stop.

The one thing that can make a real difference in terms of prospective signings is that they’ll want to know who the incoming manager is. But that doesn’t stop the Reds from compiling names.

And as far as Salah’s replacements go, Sane would be a pretty good pick. The 28-year-old is having an excellent season with Bayern and is about as natural a replacement Liverpool could find for Mo.

With his contract ticking down and having done business with the German giants before, you can see why the Reds could be involved here. Sane was signed for £55m in 2020 and a similar fee wouldn’t be out of reach for Liverpool.

Klopp could obviously have made a big difference in persuading Sane to join and so, potentially, could Schmadtke.

But Liverpool still have a lot to offer regardless. If they could promise the former Manchester City man star billing as the heir to Salah’s throne, that would be a big draw.

Of course, this all hinges on the Egyptian leaving anyway. As that still isn’t set in stone, this is all just speculation at the moment.
