Part of Jurgen Klopp’s reasoning for leaving Liverpool at the end of the season is that the squad is in such good shape.
Had the German left last summer for example, there would have been a big rebuild needed from the new man. That could have put Liverpool in a precarious place. Now though, with that overhaul having been completed, Klopp is ready to pass the job on.
And despite rumours that some of the Reds’ stalwarts could follow their manager out of the door, whoever comes in will inherit a squad stacked with talent. One player who may well be of use to Jurgen’s successor is not even currently at the club.
Tyler Morton already looked like he could play a part for Liverpool this season prior to Ryan Gravenberch arriving on deadline day.
Instead, the 21-year-old headed out on loan to Hull City, where he’s been impressing ever since. With new data today showing that Morton is one of the best press resistant young midfielders in the game, he’s really improving.
His talents haven’t blossomed quite in time for Klopp to use Morton effectively, but the new boss should be licking his lips.
Morton set for Liverpool role
Ever since Klopp took over in 2015, it’s been possible to kind of track the status of each member of the first-team squad.
We’ve known very well who the manager rates, who he doesn’t and which youngsters are likely to be involved or moved on.
With a new man taking the helm though, most players will now start from zero again. Those who aren’t necessarily key players could start to feature more often and some who are fancied right now may no longer be.
For more established players, that can be a funny time. Hence why we’ve seen rumours that the likes of Virgil van Dijk may be minded to move on.

But for someone like Morton, it can be incredibly exciting. The England U21 international has shown himself to be one of the best young midfielders in Europe this season.
That kind of form is likely to have caught the eye of any manager who could be in the frame for the Liverpool job.
As a result, Morton should expect to be involved next year. At the very least, he should be given the chance to show his quality in pre-season.
The youngster has recently explained that he’s aiming to model his game on Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham. He may not hit those levels, but Morton now looks ready to be part of a new era at Liverpool.
