It’s been an interesting few weeks for Wataru Endo. At Liverpool a lot has happened since he flew to Qatar to compete at the Asian Cup. Meanwhile, on the pitch for his national team things haven’t been going as smoothly as expected.

Japan are the favourites to win the tournament. After impressive performances at the World Cup, Endo’s team are expected to lift the trophy. They’ve qualified for the quarter finals already. However, their performances so far have been far from convincing.

Japan actually lost to Iraq, and even against Bahrain in the round of 16 didn’t quite to secure the big victory they were hoping for. Endo himself has however played well. He has been one of the better players for Japan – as you would expect with him being the captain of his country.

Wataru Endo on what’s been happening at Liverpool

Since Endo has left Liverpool to go to the tournament, there has obviously been a lot going on at Anfield as well. On the pitch, the Reds have been phenomenal. Off the pitch, of course, the major headline has been the news surrounding Jurgen Klopp’s departure.

Speaking at the tournament about Klopp’s decision to leave the club, Endo admitted he was surprised by the Liverpool boss’ decision.

“Of course I was surprised, but I have supported Liverpool for a long time. He’s a human being, so I have no choice but to respect his decision, and other players who have been with me for a long time may be more shocked than me,” Endo said as per GOAL Japan.

He also made it clear, the goal at Liverpool is still the same as before.

“But anyway, I think our goal as a team is to win the title in the end.”

That’s exactly what you want to hear. Endo has been playing really well for Liverpool. It’s good to see him being motivated to win trophies. Liverpool’s objectives are clear for the rest of the season.
