How Liverpool’s players reacted when told Jurgen Klopp was leaving this morning

Liverpool players have been informed that Jurgen Klopp will leave the club at the end of the season.

Today brought the dreaded news that nobody connected with Liverpool wanted to hear: Klopp’s tenure is coming to an end.

Since the announcement was made, it’s since emerged that the manager had made his decision and informed FSG back in November.

However, according to The Telegraph journalist Chris Bascombe, that did not include telling the players.

Instead, Bascombe reports that the Reds squad were only informed – presumably just before the rest of the world – this morning.

“Although Klopp told the Liverpool hierarchy of his intention in November, the players were only informed this morning,” says the journalist. “Naturally, they are as shocked as the supporters and the rest of the football world.”

It’s impossible not to wonder how this news will impact the futures of several of these Liverpool players.

For the likes of Mohamed Salah – flirting with the Saudi Pro League – will it encourage him that it’s finally time to leave the club himself.

Plenty will have been drawn to Liverpool simply because of Klopp’s presence at the club. Perhaps a few will now be re-evaluating.

Then, it could also swing the other way for several. For the likes of Thiago Alcantara for example, maybe a new manager could bring about an unexpected change in fortunes. Will a new manager see Trent Alexander-Arnold as an out-and-out midfielder?

All of these questions are now up in the air. It’s clear that everything is about to change at Liverpool

Prior to today, we could plot and plan the career paths of players because we knew how Klopp felt about them. That could stretch at least two years into the future.

Now though, that has been taken away in one fell swoop. Suddenly, everything feels upside down.

In terms of an instant reaction from the squad, this could now go one of two ways. They could be galvanised by the news and kick on in an attempt to win it all for Jurgen. Or they could freeze and simply not recover. Only time will tell.
