Michail Antonio says 27-year-old Liverpool player was passing too much vs Fulham

There were plenty of really impressive individual performances for Liverpool against Fulham last night. It felt like every player on the pitch stepped up to help deliver a much needed result for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Despite the circumstances, despite the missing players – Liverpool never once looked like they would not get the job done. That’s a huge credit to the fringe players who stepped-up. But of course, some of the bigger stars had to deliver as well.

One of those was Luis Diaz, whose goal got Liverpool on the right track on the night. Although according to one Sky Sports pundit, the Colombian could have made things even more comfortable for the Reds.

Michail Antonio on Luis Diaz

Speaking on Sky Sports, Antonio said that he thought Diaz should have been taking more shots in the game against Fulham. And that at times the 27-year-old Liverpool star should have been more selfish.

“There was a couple of opportunities when he should have taken a shot. As an attacking player, especially when you are doing so well in a game and have that confidence, just put your foot through it because a couple of times he was on the edge of the box and the pitch has opened up for him to take the shot and he has passed it,” Antonio said.

Antonio’s point is interesting. Diaz is definitely a player whose attacking numbers haven’t been as high as you would expect. He’s still not quite the prolific winger the Reds had expected when he first walked in through the doors at Anfield. But in the last few weeks, he is getting back into form. And maybe that goal against Fulham was another step in the right direction.
