There was plenty to smile about for Jurgen Klopp tonight. Liverpool recorded another strong result, away from home and there is now the prospect of a final to look forward to.

To qualify for another final at Wembley is a special achievement for Jurgen Klopp’s side. But what is even more special is the way Liverpool were able to do it this time around. This was a makeshift side lining up against Fulham. A side that was missing so many key players, and yet it never looked like it.

Time and time again now Liverpool’s fringe players just keep stepping up and taking their moments. It’s a testament to the squad Klopp has at his disposal. But also the cohesion and unity within the team as well. Everyone looks hungry and determined to fight for the shirt.

No one sums that up more than one special player, who was highlighted by Jurgen Klopp tonight after the game in his post-match press conference.

Jurgen Klopp on Joe Gomez

Speaking in his post match press conference as per the Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele, Klopp revealed he was particularly impressed by Joe Gomez. The Liverpool manager claimed that the 26-year-old played an exceptional game against Fulham.

“Without Joey, nothing would have happened,” Klopp said. “He’s played exceptional, supreme defender and he comes inside. Tried to finish the discussion about not scoring which has gone on too far. But yeah… a life saver!”

Klopp is absolutely right to praise Gomez. He’s been brilliant covering at left-back over the last few weeks, and once again was outstanding for Liverpool tonight as well.
