One of the surprise packages for Liverpool this season has definitely been the resurgence of Joe Gomez. He’s simply been sensational and has covered a myriad of different positions extremely well.

In previous seasons Gomez has struggled with injuries. But all those problems seem to be behind him now as well. The 26-year-old is simply flourishing and enjoying his football at Anfield.

As he should, Jurgen Klopp’s men are currently top of the Premier League table, and still in the race for every other competition. There is a genuine prospect of this being another historic season for the Reds, and that is really exciting.

Although, when it comes to Gomez there may just be one thing missing. One thing even Klopp has been joking about with him.

Joe Gomez shares even Klopp has been giving him stick

Gomez has been playing for Liverpool for almost a decade now, and has close to 200 appearances for the club. But despite all the games, and experience he is still yet to score a goal. Something, he admits has been the subject of banter in the dressing room by even Klopp.

“I score in training,” Gomez told the club’s official website. “I get some in training. I don’t know it’s weird because obviously eight years it’s never been that apparent and now suddenly even the gaffer gave me a bit. He said he’d give my wife some money if I scored.”

No one will be more determined to score a goal than Gomez himself. But it’s nice to see that there is a lighthearted attitude about it in training. There is absolutely no pressure nor need for Gomez to add goals to his game. Liverpool have plenty of other players who can do that on the pitch.
