Robbie Fowler has given an update on Sven-Goran Eriksson managing the upcoming Liverpool legends game.
There was hugely emotional news this week, as former England manager Eriksson announced that he is living with terminal cancer.
As well as sharing the devastating diagnosis, the legendary Swedish coach publicly reiterated his life-long love for Liverpool.
Following Sven’s admission that he’s a Red, there have been calls for him to take charge of the Liverpool legends game against Ajax in March. And having been tagged into a post on X about making that happen, Fowler and Luis Garcia have revealed that they’re working towards it.
“Legends game still a chance… YNWA,” wrote Garcia, before a fan tagged in Fowler in a follow-up.
“Calls gone in mate,” replied the Reds icon. Terrific news. What an emotional occasion we could now have in March.
Fowler makes Eriksson call
It isn’t a given that Eriksson will take over the legends team despite a call from Fowler. Sadly, the 75-year-old is not in the best of health and may perhaps be unable to take on the position.
But at the very least, it would be fantastic to see Sven at Anfield for the game.
Throughout his managerial career, the Swede managed a remarkable number of teams across more than 40 years.
Although his declaration of love for Liverpool yesterday was not the first time he’s publicly admitted to being a Reds fan, his support was not widely known. After such a long time as a high-profile figure in the game, that’s incredible.

Given that he spent most of his career away from England, Sven hasn’t had all that much to do with Liverpool.
But having not worked since 2019, it’s fair to assume that he’s now more invested in the Reds than ever.
He may not have been associated with Liverpool during his glittering career, but that should mean little when it comes to the legends game – Eriksson is a legend of the sport, period.
The former Lazio boss achieved some brilliant things during his time in the game, but never got the chance to fulfil his biggest dream of all. Now is the time to get Sven on the touchline at Anfield in charge of a Liverpool side. Make it happen, Robbie!
