Alan Shearer has suggested that Darwin Nunez can become even better for Liverpool if the striker can work on his finishing.

The Uruguay international has impressed this season for the Reds, with the forward’s overall attacking play proving to be a real asset for Liverpool this campaign.

However, numbers have been disappointing for Nunez this season, and speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer has advised the Liverpool forward on how he can improve his goalscoring output.

The pundit said: “One week I think ‘Wow, what an amazing player, he’s brilliant in front of goal and he can score the spectacular.’

“But then I think the next week that he gets easy opportunities to put in the back of the net and it just isn’t. One thing I do like about him is that he never shies away, and that’s got to continue.

“But what he’s got to do is work on his finishing and his numbers have to be, because the chances he’s getting he’s misses far too many. He’s quick and gets in so many good positions, he doesn’t have to be as offside as many times as he is. He just needs to wait that second, there’s definitely goals in that.”

Nunez’s performances this season for Liverpool have been as chaotic and as entertaining as they have been ever since the forward joined the Reds last season.

Yet whilst the entertainment value has been there, results are needed in this industry, and Nunez’s record this season suggests a player who is still struggling to find the back of the net.

Indeed, whilst Nunez will be given the benefit of the doubt, there’s no denying that the forward’s goalscoring is starting to look like an issue, and the forward needs to improve things if he is to have a future at Liverpool.
