James Pearce shares when Kostas Tsimikas is expected back from injury for Liverpool now

Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas is still facing a spell on the side lines after breaking his collarbone in December.

Tsimikas had been in good form while stepping in for the injured Andy Robertson over the Autumn. But having been clattered by Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, the 27-year-old’s run in the team was brought to an end.

Joe Gomez has since been deputising well and Robertson is expected back fit at some point in the next month. However, news has been scarce on just how long Tsimikas is facing out.

Thankfully, journalist James Pearce is on-hand to provide a bit of clarity. Speaking on The Athletic’s ‘Walk On’ podcast, Pearce shared when the Greek is set to return for Liverpool.

“You’ve got Kostas Tsimikas to return probably back-end of February maybe March time,” said the reporter. Could be worse.

Tsimikas facing two months out

Whilst disappointing news, it’s at least good to get some kind of update on Tsimikas’ situation.

Since his injury, we’ve seen him looking cheerful at the AXA Training Centre alongside Thiago Alcantara. But no kind of prognosis had been publicly given.

With this in mind, Liverpool badly do need Robertson back as soon as possible.

Jurgen Klopp recently reported that the 29-year-old is ‘not close’ to a return. That’s slightly concerning, although the end of January was always seen as a realistic time-line for Robbo.

In the meantime, Liverpool will rely on Gomez. Owen Beck has also been recalled from his loan spell at Dundee and looks set to feature in the upcoming run of games.

Luke Chambers is still in reserve too, although Beck’s recall would suggest that the 19-year-old isn’t in Klopp’s plans for the rest of the season.

With Tsimikas due back before the end of the campaign, hopefully the Greece international can still come back and play a part.

Having finally been given an extended run in the team in Robertson’s absence, it’s really cruel timing for Kostas. But he’ll be back before long. At least now we have an idea of when that will be.
