Liverpool never really plan to make a signing in the January transfer window unless something urgent emerges on the horizon. Such as a long-term signing becoming available.
That was the case with the signings of Cody Gakpo last year, and Luis Diaz the year prior. But on the whole, the Reds certainly prefer to conduct business in the summer window instead.
That’s not to say a signing should be ruled out in January. Liverpool have definitely surprised us in the past and they definitely have options to explore in the market.
There is room for more additions in Jurgen Klopp’s squad, so if the right profile becomes available it’s very possible Liverpool will pounce.
One player who could fit that description is Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio.

Liverpool pushing for Goncalo Inacio?
Last week there were reports that a move for Inacio could be accelerated this month by Liverpool. And now according to Portuguese outlet A Bola there are apprehensions at Sporting that Inacio could leave in the January window.
The Portuguese star has a £52m release clause and the club has been tracking him over the course of the last few years.
Versatile, and very competent on the ball, Inacio ticks a lot of boxes for Liverpool. He definitely fits into the category of the type of player the Reds could move for in the window if he truly is available.
At 22-years-old, he has the potential to be one of the key pillars of Jurgen Klopp’s new 2.0 Liverpool reloaded.
But only time will tell whether Liverpool follow up on the interest, or whether the club thinks there is better value to be found elsewhere in the market.
