What Luis Diaz was spotted doing in the Anfield tunnel last night after Liverpool beat Newcastle

Liverpool forward Luis Diaz was certainly pleased with life after last night’s win over Newcastle United.

Diaz had just put in his best performance in months and helped the Reds to go three points clear at the top of the Premier League.

He may not have scored during Liverpool’s 4-2 win, but he was one of the best players on the pitch. Lucho was unfortunate to be substituted just past the hour mark, and could perhaps have got himself a goal had he stayed on.

Nonetheless, another game without troubling the scorers didn’t appear to bother the Colombian too much.

As spotted in a video posted by Liverpool’s official X account, Diaz could be seen belting out modern-day Reds anthem ‘One Kiss’ by Dua Lipa.

The song is a popular one amongst supporters and players, who famously blasted it on repeat during the end-of-season trophy parade back in 2022. After a difficult time for him personally, it’s brilliant to see Diaz in such good spirits.

Diaz gets his joy back

The torment Diaz and his family have gone through in recent times needs no introduction. The kidnapping of Lucho’s father in Colombia was worldwide news.

Thankfully, Mane Diaz was returned healthy and well in November.

Having endured a tough period on the pitch even prior to his dad’s disappearance, the whole ordeal can’t have helped Diaz’s mental state.

But judging by his performance last night, he may just have turned a little bit of a corner.

Before his injury nightmare of 2022/23, Liverpool’s No.7 was a player who truly encapsulated the joy that football can bring.

Effervescent, lively and electric, it felt like something could happen whenever Diaz got the ball at his feet. This season, that feeling has disappeared pretty much completely.

But last night, with Newcastle struggling to get a handle on the game, the former Porto man showed his best self again. Driving at players with pace and unpredictability, Diaz was a constant threat.

It was without a doubt the 26-year-old’s best game of the season. With half a campaign still left to play, there will now be hope that he can hit top gear once again. Singing Lucho is back. The Premier League is in trouble.
