Jurgen Klopp can no longer ignore Diogo Jota as part of his best Liverpool XI.
Jota had been in brilliant form for the Reds this season, before missing the last month with an injury. The Portugal international made his return last night, bagging a clinical goal to seal a 2-0 win over Burnley.
Having Jota back is set to be a big boost for Liverpool, who’s forwards have been struggling to score of late.
And speaking to NBC Sports after the game, pundit Robbie Mustoe claimed that the 27-year-old should now be considered as one of the Reds nailed-on starters.
“I feel like Liverpool still are trying to find their best team, and Diogo Jota for me has got to be in it,” raved the former player. “His numbers are much better, he’s been out injured, he’s a goal scorer, he’s such a good player, a versatile player.
“They haven’t figured out who their best midfield is yet. [Ryan] Gravenberch we saw a little bit today and we’ve seen other players with some changes in midfield today. If Liverpool can find an even better formula and stick with it, then I’m much more positive on them winning the title.”
Jota plays his way into best XI
Throughout his career at Liverpool, Jota has never really nailed down a starting spot in the team.
Initially, that was completely understandable. Tasked with breaking into the legendary Mane/Salah/Firmino triumvirate, the arrival from Wolves had plenty to prove.
Nevertheless, prove himself Jota did. Within weeks of his arrival the Portuguese had shown that he could very well mix it with the three icons.
But just as he was getting going, Jota got injured. And unfortunately for him, this has been something of a recurring theme.

Back in 2021/22, Diogo had also started the season on fire. But having forced his way in, a fitness problem struck him down again. His 2022/23 campaign was then ruined by injury too, as he went a whole year without a goal.
Next, after starting this season on the bench, Jota once again fired his way into the starting line-up only for injury to rear it’s head.
In the time in-between, there have been periods where the former Wolves man has had sustained runs in the side. But these have always eventually come to an end sooner or later.
This season there is again big competition for places in the forward line. But along with Mohamed Salah, Jota has proven to be one of Liverpool’s most dependable sources of goals. If he can stay fit, he should now be one of the first names on the team sheet.
