John Barnes has now named his favourite player in the Jurgen Klopp era of Liverpool, with the Reds enjoying bundles of success in recent years.

A UEFA Champions League title and a first Premier League since the revamp of the English top-flight have all found their way into Liverpool’s trophy room under the German manager.

And along the way, a number of players have become legends of the club from Mohamed Salah to Virgil van Dijk, with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson on course to join the list.

And now, speaking to the Anfield Wrap, Barnes has now named his favourite player in this era of Liverpool, with the Reds legend naming Roberto Firmino as his choice.

Barnes said about the Brazilian attacker: “The withdrawn centre-forward was my favourite player of Liverpool over the past ten years, that’s Bobby Firmino.

“Salah and Mane did what they did because of Bobby Firmino. Now all of a sudden we have a different centre-forward, the midfield is different and Mo’s role is different, so it’s a transitional period.”

Firmino left Liverpool this summer as a legend of the club, with the 31-year-old forward playing a massive role for the Anfield side during his time on Merseyside.

And for many Liverpool fans, Barnes’ comments will true over Firmino, who for the majority is one of their favourite players in recent years and an icon of the Reds.

Indeed, whilst many would say Firmino left Anfield too early, Liverpool made the decision with the squad in mind, and this season has proved it was the right call to let the Brazilian leave.
