‘Too good’… David Moyes shares the two things which really impressed him about Liverpool last night

West Ham United manager David Moyes was left in awe of Liverpool’s performance against his team last night.

Liverpool were brilliant from start to finish in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. Curtis Jones was the star of the show, but the whole Reds team turned up to put West Ham to the sword. 5-1 the final score.

It was another disappointing trip to Anfield for Moyes. The 60-year-old has now failed to win in any of his 21 visits to the ground as a manager.

And speaking to whufc.com after the game, the Scottish coach admitted that there was nothing his team could do to stop Liverpool on the day. Too quick, too strong, too good.

“Liverpool were too good of a team for us,” Moyes commented.

“It was as simple as that. We can talk all we like about it, but they were far too strong and far too quick. They were much better than we were.”

Moyes makes Liverpool admission

For anyone who’s watched any of West Ham this season – or over the last couple really – last night was a strange one.

Usually such an awkward opponent to play against, the Hammers looked set to be a really tricky proposition for Liverpool.

But in the end, it didn’t turn out that way at all.

With Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, you can often tell within the first 10 minutes or so what kind of performance you’re going to get.

If things are a little slow, a little forced, then it’s rare that they’ll improve too much. The Reds might win but you’re going to be in for a struggle of a 90 minutes.

But there are times when everything just clicks and the energy in the team makes a win feel inevitable. That was the case last night.

After a sluggish display against Manchester United three days earlier, this was like chalk and cheese from Liverpool. Straight away the energy was there. West Ham struggled to match it from the first whistle and never really got up to speed.

Although he has never won at Anfield, that isn’t really what you’d expect from a David Moyes team. He usually gives it a good go even in defeat. Nevertheless, at least he’s able to hold his hands up and admit that Liverpool were simply too good on the night.
