Pep Lijnders has said Ben Doak will be out for some time after picking up an injury that will require the Liverpool winger to have surgery.
The Scottish youth international tore his lateral meniscus having come off injured in an EFL Trophy match for Liverpool’s U-21s earlier this month against Bradford City.
Lauded as ‘special’ by academy coach Barry Lewtas, Doak is regarded as one of Liverpool’s most exciting prospects and a talent who can become something special with the right development plan.

However, speaking to the press, assistant coach Lijnders revealed that Doak will go under the knife to fix his latest injury, which could keep the 18-year-old for the rest of the season.
Lijnders said on Doak’s latest injury: “That’s not a good one. He teared his lateral meniscus, which needs surgery. That one will take [a] longer time.
“He is young, he is a fit guy, he is a positive guy so for sure he will come back stronger, and we need him to come back with the same fire he has with the ball, how he was. He can take time and we will wait for him.”
Ben Doak suffering a serious injury is a massive blow

At 18, any serious injury at this stage could be a career-ender, with everyone now helpful that Doak’s latest issue won’t halt the winger’s development in a major way.
Yet with surgery now on the table for Doak, early signs aren’t looking good for the attacker, who could now not play for Liverpool for the rest of the season.
Indeed, whilst Doak still has time on his hands, missing out on the next few months is a major blow for the Scottish wonderkid’s development.
And for many fans, they will be hopeful that Doak can return as soon as possible, with the winger truly one of the most exciting prospects on Liverpool’s books.
