Liverpool are reportedly looking to beat Manchester City to Piero Hincapie, who is due to leave Bayer Leverkusen in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old Ecuador international was once viewed as one of the most exciting defenders in all of world football, with Hincapie impressing in last year’s 2022 FIFA World Cup.

However, the youngster has yet to win over Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen, with Hincapie playing just a bit-part role for the German side in what is becoming a historic season for the Bundesliga club.

And now, according to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are looking to beat the likes of City and Newcastle United to Hincapie, with Jurgen Klopp believed to be a big fan of the versatile defender.

Indeed, with Liverpool in need of a replacement for Joel Matip, Hincapie would be a useful addition for the Reds heading into the second half of the season.

And Liverpool’s intention to beat the likes of City to Hincapie’s signature strongly indicates that Klopp has some serious intention of signing the Ecuador international.

Liverpool’s needs in January are quite easy, with Klopp needing a versatile defender on the younger side of the age spectrum with a midfielder also wanted.

And Hincapie could be a brilliant addition for the Reds if a reasonable deal can be struck with Leverkusen, who could be tempted to sell for cheap next month.

As we know, Alonso is leading the Bundesliga club to what would be an incredible league title, and offloading Hincapie will bring in vital funds to spend on the squad.
