Fabrizio Romano has dealt a transfer blow to Liverpool with Brazilian defender Lucas Beraldo set to join PSG despite links to Anfield.

The 20-year-old centre-back is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in South America, with the Sao Paulo wonderkid expected to make the leap to Europe next month.

Yet now, according to Romano via Twitter, PSG are making strong progress in securing the youngster’s signature in a deal that could be worth as much as £25m.

Given how strongly linked Liverpool were to Beraldo, the defender opting to move to France will come across as a major blow for the Anfield side heading into January.

Joel Matip’s injury means that a versatile defender on the younger side is a top transfer priority for Liverpool, with Beraldo a strong candidate to fill such a role.

However, PSG have been effective in their bid to sign Beraldo, and it now looks like the Brazilian youngster will be swapping Sao Paulo for Paris, much to Liverpool’s dismay.

Liverpool have been linked with a number of players heading into next month’s January window, and Beraldo could have been an interesting signing for the Reds.

However, with PSG closing in on the Brazilian youngster, some Liverpool fans could be left with the feeling that the Anfield side should have done more to sign Beraldo.

As we know, defence is a key area for Liverpool to strengthen in the January window, and Beraldo would have been an exceptional long-term addition had the Reds moved faster to sign the 20-year-old.

Yet it now looks like it is PSG will secure Beraldo’s signature, with the defender a player who could be one Liverpool regret not signing in the years to come.
