Richard Keys has now given his opinion on Virgil van Dijk’s comments yesterday after Liverpool’s 0-0 draw against Manchester United.
The Anfield captain took aim at the Old Trafford side by claiming that Liverpool were the only side who turned up on the day, with United’s defensive game plan working to a tee on Merseyside.
With the likes of Roy Keane criticising Van Dijk for his comments on United’s tactics, the Liverpool defender has found himself under the microscope in the past 24 hours.

Yet writing on his personal blog, Keys has defended the Liverpool skipper, with the broadcaster agreeing that United didn’t want to go for the win yesterday against their Premier League rivals.
Keys wrote: “The game was poor. Liverpool weren’t at it, but I’m with Van Dijk. Only one team tried to win the game and they would’ve done so had they been a bit sharper and a bit more clinical.
“United put on a show that Crystal Palace would’ve been proud of. How far have they fallen when leaving Anfield with a goalless draw is defended by Ten Hag apologists as a triumph?”
Virgil van Dijk was spot on about Manchester United’s game plan

Whilst it’s no real surprise that a United legend in Keane has taken shots at Van Dijk over his comments, there’s no denying that the Liverpool defender is right.
Going into this game, everyone and their mother predicted United to get battered by United, with some fans even thinking that last season’s 7-0 result could be topped yet again.
Whilst some of Liverpool’s most potent attacking players had an off game, United’s game plan was to keep the Reds out at all costs, a tactic that worked like a treat.
As a result, Van Dijk can’t be criticised for stating the painfully obvious, with United pleased they came away with a hard-though point having defended for the entire game.
