Gary Neville has said Manchester United did something unthinkable against Liverpool yesterday in their 0-0 draw at Anfield.

The home of the Reds is regarded as one of the toughest places to travel to in football, with Jurgen Klopp transforming Liverpool into one of the best clubs on the planet.

And a large part of that is due to Liverpool’s incredible commitment to pressing, which has helped the Anfield side win a UEFA Champions League and Premier League title in recent years.

And speaking on Sky Sports coverage of the match, Neville was shocked to see United trying to build from the back despite Liverpool’s press looking up for the occasion early on in the fixture.

Neville said: “Part of me feels like you should go 1980s, 1990s and knock it forward, but you don’t come here and do that at Anfield in any decade, they will not let you play out from the back this Jurgen Klopp team.

“Look, there’s six of them lined up ready to pounce on the midfield and attack. Go on, play it, what are you doing.”

Liverpool should have gone harder on Manchester United

In the opening stages at Anfield, it looked like Liverpool were going to give United yet another thrashing as the likes of Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez looked to pounce on Andre Onana on the ball.

However, these moments in the first few minutes proved to be the only real pressure Liverpool would put on United’s backline, with the Reds fizzling out of the game rather quickly.

Indeed, yesterday could have been a chance for Liverpool to make a real statement by claiming their first major win of the season at Anfield.

However, Liverpool disappointed, and next week’s game against Arsenal could be a hard one if the Reds aren’t careful enough against Mikel Arteta’s side.
