‘He’s targeted…’ BBC pundit says £35m Liverpool player is just way too easy to get past

Paul Robinson has taken aim at Alexis Mac Allister’s role in the Liverpool midfield since joining from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer.

The Argentine international was the Reds’ first arrival of the window as Liverpool paid a reported £35m to sign Mac Allister, with many claiming the deal was a bargain at the time.

Having hit double-digits for goals for Brighton last season and assisted for Argentina in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final, a lot of big things were expected of Mac Allister at Liverpool.

However, to the surprise of many, Jurgen Klopp has deployed the midfielder in the deepest possible position in the midfield-three, with results being mixed for Mac Allister.

And speaking on the Football Daily Podcast, former England international Robinson thinks that Mac Allister is just too easy for opposing players to run off given his stature.

The pundit said: “I think Mac Allister gets run off too easily, as well, when he’s played. The goals they have conceded with people running off his shoulder, he’s targeted.”

Mac Allister’s start to life at Liverpool has been underwhelming, to say the least. Though this much is given based on where the midfielder has been playing.

Starting as the deepest player in a midfield-three is far from what Mac Allister is used to, and the Argentine has had to adapt on the fly for the Reds.

Indeed, the midfielder will come good in time, and recent signs have suggested that a bit more time and patience could be what’s needed for Mac Allister to finally hit the ground running for Liverpool.
