Liverpool are reportedly scouting Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney, who has been one of the breakout stars in the Championship this season.

The 21-year-old England youth international has been making quite a name for himself this campaign in the second-tier, with Hackney establishing himself as a real talent for the future.

Already likened to Manchester United legend and current Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick, big things are expected of Hackney heading into 2024, where a Premier League move is on the cards.

And according to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are now scouting Hackney, with United, Manchester City and Tottenham also keeping tabs on the Championship star.

As per the report, though, Liverpool will be expected to pay a sizeable fee to Middlesbrough if they’re to sign Hackney next year, with the midfielder’s contract with the club lasting another four years.

Moreover, a deal will likely have to take place in the summer, with Hackney believed to be eager to stay with his boyhood club until the end of the season.

Championship products are becoming increasingly popular in the Premier League, with the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Ollie Watkins becoming superstars in the English top-flight having moved from the division.

And Hackney could easily become the next big thing to emerge from the Championship, something Liverpool have to be tuned in with over a potential deal next year.

Indeed, the Reds are yet to fully explore the Championship unlike other Premier League clubs, yet that could change with Hackney in 2024.

The midfielder is showing an incredible amount of promise, and with Liverpool in need of another player in the position, Hackney could be the man for the job next year.
