Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Alexis Mac Allister’s injury is something the Liverpool manager has never seen before in his career.

The Argentine midfielder suffered a nasty gash in Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Sheffield United, with Mac Allister missing the Reds’ Saturday result against Crystal Palace.

With the £35m summer signing unlikely to feature this weekend against Manchester United, Liverpool will be short in the midfield with Mac Allister now out injured.

And speaking to the press ahead of tomorrow’s UEFA Europa League fixture, Klopp has revealed the details of Mac Allister’s injury, with the Liverpool boss saying it’s something he has never seen before.

The Anfield manager said when asked about the latest in Mac Allister’s fight with his injury: “It’s a bit more tricky than we first thought.

“The player got his stud straight through the muscle and to the bone, now we have to wait until the bone is healed and Macca can deal with the pain, because it was pretty painful. Macca’s super tough but we need to hope it isn’t infected, I’ve never had this injury with a player before, but hopefully it’s not too long.”

Given the grim detail Klopp has now given us over what happened to Mac Allister, there’s every chance that the midfielder is now out for some time.

Torn muscle and bone impact strongly hints that the 24-year-old might be out for some weeks, with Mac Allister needing time for all the necessary body parts to fully heal.

As a result, Liverpool are now quite short in midfield, with Thiago Alcantara still out through injury as we delve deeper into the festive period.

Indeed, Mac Allister would have been a great asset for Liverpool to have going into Sunday’s game against United, but the Argentine clearly needs time to fully recover.
