‘Outstanding’ injured Liverpool player could be back to play against Arsenal next week

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister may yet be fit to face Arsenal a week on Saturday.

There’s been some bad news for Reds fans today, with Mac Allister looking set to miss Sunday’s clash with Manchester United.

But according to Argentine outlet TyC Sports, the 24-year-old could still return for the top-of-the-table fixture against the Gunners.

They claim that Mac Allister has already been ruled out of Liverpool’s next three games. With his injury ‘causing concern’ at Anfield, the Reds’ No.10 will reportedly play no part against Union Saint-Gilloise, United or West Ham.

With a recovery period said to be around 15 days long, there’s still seemingly hope that Mac Allister could be ready for Arsenal on December 23rd. The game against Mikel Arteta’s side comes 17 days after Macca’s injury was sustained against Sheffield United.

Thankfully, the issue isn’t said to be ligaments-related, so it seems unlikely that Mac Allister will need any further time out.

Mac Allister aiming for Arsenal return

Liverpool supporters will really be hoping that Mac Allister is able to make his return to face Arsenal.

Of the four games in question here, there are some real biggies. But given their status as likely title-challengers to the Reds, the game against the Gunners is arguably the biggest before Christmas.

Obviously, we’d prefer to have the Argentina international available for this weekend’s visit of Man United. But the truth is that United aren’t exactly firing on all cylinders at the moment.

They were heavily beaten by Bournemouth last weekend and will be coming off the back of a tricky game against Bayern Munich. Should they exit the Champions League tonight, their confidence will be at a low ebb.

With that in mind – and also factoring in the 7-0 at Anfield last year which will be in their minds – Liverpool should cope without Mac Allister on Sunday.

It’s perhaps unlikely that he’d have played any part in the other two games even if he were fit. As a result, the Arsenal one is the real test.

Though he’s still yet to completely convince everyone that he’s a defensive midfielder, Mac Allister has become a key part of this new-look Liverpool. He even scored his first goal for the club at the start of the month, one which Trent Alexander-Arnold called ‘outstanding.’ The Reds look a better team with the World Cup winner in it.

With that in mind, this should still be positive news for Liverpool. But let’s hope we get a further, even better update over the next few days.
