Liverpool have reportedly been scouting Real Betis teenager Assane Diao, with Manchester United also keeping tabs on the winger.

The Spanish youth international has been one of the breakout stars in La Liga this season, with the 18-year-old featuring regularly under Manuel Pellegrini this campaign.

As a result, transfer interest is now mounting for Diao, with Liverpool already linked with a move for the attacker as we head into the January transfer window next month.

And now, according to TeamTalk, the Reds have been sending scouts to Andalusia to watch Diao, though Manchester rivals United have also been watching the winger.

Indeed, Diao would be quite the coup for Liverpool if the Anfield side can beat Erik Ten Hag and company to the Real Betis wonderkid’s signature.

However, given the lack of need for a winger in the current Liverpool squad, the Reds making a real move for Diao could be a waste of funds given what Klopp’s side actually needs.

Assane Diao is the right player at the wrong time for Liverpool

Diao is clearly a player who is going to go far in football having enjoyed an incredible debut season so far for one of Spain’s biggest and most respected clubs.

And whilst Liverpool would seemingly love to sign Diao, the entire situation feels like it’s the right player and the wrong time for the Merseyside giants.

As we know, the Reds have to add to their defence in the January transfer window as well as the midfield if Klopp is to push on with Liverpool’s Premier League title charge.

With United interested in Diao, there’s a real chance that the Red Devils can pip Liverpool to the winger’s signature, who could be tempted with a move to Old Trafford.
