James Milner has named Joel Matip as one of the funniest players at Liverpool during his time at the club.

The veteran midfielder departed Merseyside this summer after Milner’s contract came to an end at Liverpool after a stunning career.

A firm fan favourite with the Anfield faithful, Milner has left a lasting impact at Liverpool despite moving on to a Premier League rival in Brighton & Hove Albion.

And speaking on the High Performance Podcast, Milner revealed that Matip is one of the funniest players at Liverpool when discussing the club’s famed player jury in regards to paying fines.

Milner said about the 32-year-old defender: “Joel Matip was one of the funniest guys I know and he was in there.

“I don’t think he had said too much at that point, but he was on the jury and he was like ‘yeah, pay double!’ It really got everyone’s personality out.”

Matip and Milner might not be the best players in the world, but there’s no denying that the pair were and still are unbelievable characters in and around the dressing room.
