James Milner has detailed Liverpool’s incredible journey to winning the 2019 UEFA Champions League.
The midfielder played a massive role in guiding the Reds to their sixth European cup in a season where Liverpool came second in the Premier League with 97 points.
And speaking on the High Performance Podcast, Milner discussed how Liverpool went from losing the Champions League final the previous year and finishing second in the league to winning Europe’s biggest prize.
Milner said: “Being part of the journey and seeing it in front of our eyes where he’s inherited a team and lost two finals and how we reacted to that.

“The changes, the training and then the big moments of getting into Europe at the last moment, getting into a Champions League final and it not happening and getting 97 points in the Premier League. That was obviously obscene.
“The big one for me was losing the Champions League final, coming back a year later and losing the league with 97 points.
“I don’t think any team would have got over that, that final was really big and there wasn’t a moment where I doubted us.
“And of course that semi-final against Barcelona was a big moment. When Klopp said ‘no one believes us but I do’, that gave us the belief we could. That took us on and to win the final.”
James Milner has every right to be amazed by Liverpool’s Champions League win

From going 3-0 down in the first-leg away to FC Barcelona in the semi-final to winning the final in comfortable fashion, Liverpool’s journey to win the Champions League was something special.
Few fans would have predicted the Reds to go all the way heading into Anfield on the night of the second-leg, yet based off Milner’s comments, there was belief in the squad that a miracle could happen.
And that such a miracle happened, with Liverpool claiming their sixth Champions League title in Madrid against a Tottenham side who looked stunned by the occasion.
