Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Mohamed Salah got a raucous reception after scoring his 200th goal for Liverpool today.
Salah has been on the verge of hitting the landmark for the past couple of weeks. But having gone three Premier League games without a goal, the Egyptian has been made to wait.
That wait came to an end this afternoon, Mo sweeping home an important deflected effort to get Liverpool level against Crystal Palace. With the Reds still looking for a winner, the moment wasn’t especially celebrated on the pitch.
But speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Klopp confirmed that Salah had received a hero’s welcome in the dressing room.
“Obviously, we carried the shirt with the 200 on the back already for two weeks,” smiled the manager.
“Today we could give it to him in the dressing room and the response of the boys was incredible. Really loud, loud applause, [they] wanted a speech but I had to go, I don’t know now if he had one or not!”
Liverpool players honour Salah
With Liverpool looking for a way back into the game at Selhurst Park, Salah always felt like a likely source.
It wasn’t the 31-year-old’s best game overall, as he continued a slightly quiet spell of late.
Nevertheless, when he’s on the pitch there’s always a chance that Salah will pop up with a big moment, and that’s exactly what he did.
When the ball fell to him in the box, there was still quite a bit for Mo to do. Plenty of bodies were between he and the Crystal Palace goal.

But in that scenario, Salah did what all good strikers do: simply get it on target and see where the ricochet takes it.
As it was, Salah would have had the chance to get his big goal had the shot missed anyway. Curtis Jones was taken out by Joel Ward after laying his teammate in, and it surely would have been a penalty.
Instead, Mo made sure and got the Reds’ latest remarkable comeback underway.
Hopefully now that he’s got this particular monkey off his back Salah can start playing with a little more freedom. The Egypt captain is visibly a little anxious whenever a landmark is in his sights. Here’s to the next 200, Mo!
