Liverpool are hoping to tie up a bargain deal during the January transfer window.

The Reds have some work to do in the New Year, with a defensive addition now a priority following a serious injury to Joel Matip.

However, according to Dutch outlet Soccer News, Liverpool are also scouting out potential arrivals at the other end of the pitch.

They claim that the Reds are looking to strike a deal to bring in 18-year-old Benfica starlet Kyanno Silva. With the youngster’s contract up at the end of the season, Liverpool have reportedly sensed a bargain.

Although an extension on his deal in Lisbon is said to be still a possibility, it’s claimed that Benfica would allow Silva to leave for as little as £200k in January.

Naturally, there is plenty of competition for the teenager, with Atalanta and Borussia Dortmund also reportedly sniffing around.

Liverpool looking to pip United

Although Manchester United aren’t mentioned as one of the interested parties in Silva, tying up the Netherlands youngster would be a direct jab at Liverpool’s arch-rivals.

That’s because in a follow-up interview with Soccer News, the prospect has named United as his ‘dream club.’

Somewhat bizarrely, Silva even claimed that he has been texting with Red Devils legend Rio Ferdinand, after running into him on a trip to watch United play.

“Ferdinand is a legend from the past,” Kyanno raved. “He’s kind of a mentor to me. He tells me what he has been through and gives me advice on what to do. We don’t have contact every day, but he texts me when I’ve scored a nice goal, for example.”

In terms of playing style, Ferdinand is a slightly odd mentor for Silva to have.

While the former England international was one of the finest centre-backs of his day, Kyanno is a two-footed pacy winger. Chalk and cheese.

Nevertheless, it isn’t hard to imagine that Rio will be suggesting Silva to United and vice-versa. As seen with Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford in 2021, Ferdinand does appear to still hold some sway at his former club.

If Liverpool can sneak in and snatch what appears to be a real bargain right under their old enemy’s noses, it would be double the reason to celebrate!
