Jurgen Klopp was amazed by Darwin Nunez’s passing last night as the Liverpool striker assisted Dominik Szoboszlai against Sheffield United.
The Uruguay international once again failed to get his name onto the scoresheet, with Nunez rather quiet against the Blades despite how ideal the game was set up for the forward to cause some chaos.
Yet that’s not to say that the 24-year-old striker was useless during the 2-0 win, with Nunez doing well late on at Bramall Lane to win possession of the ball and find Szoboszlai inside the area for an easy goal.
And speaking to Amazon Prime post-match, Klopp was incredibly impressed with the quality of the pass, with Nunez showing how good he can be as a creator rather than a finisher.
Indeed, Nunez’s overall game often goes overlooked by supporters and pundits, and it was good to see the striker receive some praise for something away from his goalscoring abilities.
Klopp said: “How Darwin gets the ball back here. From my point of view it was a great challenge. And then what a pass. Wow. From my point of view I would like to have that earlier but it’s fine.”

A striker who can do more than just score goals is all the rage it seems in the Premier League, with the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Ollie Watkins two lead examples in the category.
Moreover, it’s one that Liverpool helped create, with Roberto Firmino arguably the gold standard for such a role during the Brazilian international’s incredible career at Anfield.
And for Klopp, transforming Nunez into this sort of attacker could be majorly beneficial for Liverpool going into the future.
The striker showed against Sheffield United that he is as good as creating as he is scoring, and Klopp could unleash Nunez’s full potential at Liverpool if he can give him the right instructions.
