21-year-old claims he’s improved so much after signing for Liverpool

Sepp van den Berg has now claimed that he has improved a lot as a player since signing for Liverpool.

The 21-year-old centre-back joined the Reds as a 17-year-old in 2019 having become a regular in the Eredivisie with PEC Zwolle, with Van den Berg currently out on loan in Germany with Mainz 05.

And speaking to the club’s official website, the Dutch youth international revealed that moving to Liverpool as a youngster has worked wonders on his career.

Whilst Van den Berg has made just four senior appearances for the Reds, it’s clear that the defender is happy with his decision to move to the Premier League giants when he did in his career.

The centre-back said on the move: “The fact that I went to England when I was 17 was a big advantage and now makes the difference, I learned a lot about defending there.

“The difference in performance is enormous, like from another world. I think that’s what made me the player I am today. My height is of course also an advantage.”

Van den Berg might not have developed into the generation-defining centre-back some expected the Dutchman to become, yet there’s no denying that the defender is progressing well.

The 21-year-old is still very much at the start of his footballing career, with a place in Liverpool’s senior squad still a realistic goal for Van den Berg.

And heading into 2024, the defender will want to prove to the Reds that he made the right choice in signing for the Anfield side when he did, with Van den Berg’s potential rather exciting.
