Steve McManaman has voiced his surprise over Kostas Tsimikas not starting for Liverpool against Sheffield United tonight.
The Greek international started from the bench at Bramall Lane as Joe Gomez was given the nod at left-back for Liverpool, with Tsimikas starting on the weekend against Fulham.
Whilst the defender wasn’t brilliant against the west London side, Tsimikas looked like a safe bet to start for the Reds this evening in Sheffield against Chris Wilder’s side.

And speaking pre-match on Amazon Prime ahead of Liverpool’s clash against the Blades, McManaman was surprised that the Greek international was not named in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI.
Once lauded by the German manager as ‘insane’, Tsimikas has grown in confidence with every game for Liverpool since replacing the injured Andy Robertson, though the 27-year-old did not start tonight.
McManaman said on the Greek star not being named in Liverpool’s XI: “I’m surprised that Tsimikas hasn’t started. He’s on the bench so maybe he has a little issue or something.”
Liverpool dropping Kostas Tsimikas vs Sheffield United could raise questions

Whilst Gomez was solid enough against the Blades tonight, Tsimikas being named on the bench and not even featuring could raise some questions amongst Liverpool fans.
With injuries starting to pile up, having another player out injured could make things very difficult for the Reds as we enter the bulk of the festive period.
And losing Tsimikas, in particular, could have dire consequences for Liverpool, with Robertson already out injured until 2024.
Whilst Tsimikas might not have been needed for Liverpool tonight against Sheffield United, the defender’s absence could be a big concern going forward, with another injury the last thing the Anfield side need.
