Liverpool are looking to get their first win at the Etihad Stadium in over eight years on Saturday afternoon.

The last time the Reds got a result at Manchester City’s home was November 21st 2015, just a month into Jurgen Klopp’s reign as manager.

Perhaps there’s a positive omen in the fact that it’s so close to that exact date this time around, but it’s clear that Liverpool are going to have to be at their best to get anything.

Heading into the game, with the teams separated by one point at the top of the Premier League table, most Liverpool supporters would probably take a draw. And according to former England goalkeeper David seaman, that’s exactly what they’ll get.

Speaking on his Seaman Says podcast, the 60-year-old has backed the Reds to emulate the scoreline from this fixture in 2022.

“I’m going 2-2,” said the pundit when asked to predict the game’s outcome. We’d take it!

Liverpool backed for high-scoring draw

If you handed Liverpool fans a guaranteed point and two goals at the Etihad tomorrow, most would snap your hands off for it.

Although there have been times when the Reds have run City mighty close on their own patch, it remains relatively rare that they come away with anything.

This will be Klopp’s ninth Premier League visit to the blue half of Manchester and although there have been three draws, Liverpool have lost half of those trips.

Of course, there’s no shame in losing to City. This is any Premier League side’s hardest game of the season after all.

But if any team can head to the Etihad feeling confident about a win, then it should be Liverpool.

Last year, that wasn’t the case. The Reds were in bad shape when visiting the champions in April and were dealt with accordingly.

But having seen their rivals sweep up a treble, there’ll be a determination from Liverpool to show that they are still City’s closest challengers.

If they can match Seaman’s prediction – or even better it – then it’ll be a statement to the rest of the division that Liverpool are back and they mean business. Come on, Reds!
