Jamie Carragher has now made his prediction for Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League clash against Manchester City this weekend.
The Reds take on what is their biggest game of the season so far in Pep Guardiola’s side, with Liverpool not winning at the Etihad Stadium since 2015 in the league.
As a result, few pundits are actually predicting Liverpool to come away with all three points on Saturday, and Carragher has now joined that list.
Speaking on Stick to Football, the former Liverpool centre-back claimed that a draw could be the best the Reds can manage against City based on their defensive record this season.
Carragher said: “It will be tough. I think the best Liverpool will get here is a draw. Liverpool’s record there is poor. Defensively, for me, they have the best goalkeeper in the world, Liverpool, they will definitely need him.
“Virgil van Dijk hasn’t been far away from his best. I think it will be difficult defensively for Liverpool, so I think it will be a draw.”
Liverpool can do better than a draw against Manchester City
Given Liverpool’s recent record at the Etihad and how good City are when they turn up, it makes sense why the Reds aren’t being predicted to claim all three points on Saturday.
However, if there’s one group of people who believe they can do just that, it’s the Liverpool squad themselves, with Jurgen Klopp always confident they can get a win despite the odds.
Whilst eight years have passed since Liverpool’s last Premier League win at the Etihad, the Reds have shown this season that they’re on the rise with their new-look midfield and rejuvenated Darwin Nunez.
And with City not as hot as they were last season as their injury list continues to grow, there’s every chance that Liverpool can get a win on the road in what could be a statement result.
