Xavi Alonso is reportedly turning heads at Liverpool after a record-breaking start with Bayer Leverkusen this season as manager.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Reds are taking a keen interest on the 41-year-old coach having led Leverkusen to the top of the Bundesliga with an incredible ten wins in 11 games.
Matching Pep Guardiola’s winning record start with Bayern Munich, Alonso is now easily one of the hottest managerial properties in all of Europe, with Liverpool now interested in their former midfielder.

With Leverkusen’s CEO even coming out publically about the Basque coach one day returning to Anfield, it’s clear that a move could actually happen in the future, unless Real Madrid beat Liverpool to the punch.
Jacobs said about Liverpool’s interest: “There’s no doubt that Alonso is turning heads at the moment and that includes with two of his former clubs, Liverpool, and Real Madrid.
“I think less so Bayern Munich at this stage, because Thomas Tuchel is starting to settle, but obviously, if a vacancy ever opens there, then we know that Alonso will be linked with it as well. But the Liverpool possibility is maybe the most interesting.”
Liverpool might be helpless to beat Madrid to Alonso
Alonso could be a case of the perfect manager at the wrong time for Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp unlikely to leave Merseyside at the end of this season.
With Carlo Ancelotti poised to depart, Alonso heading back to Madrid seems written in the stars already, with the Leverkusen coach the perfect managerial candidate for Los Blancos.
Whilst a return to Liverpool to succeed Klopp would be a dream scenario for Reds supporters, the odds of this actually happening feel low, to say the least.
Excluding a disaster, Klopp leaving Anfield won’t be happening at the end of this season, and for Alonso, that means Madrid could be his only viable option for a new job in 2024, much to Liverpool’s dismay.
