Luis Diaz has shared what Liverpool teammate Alisson Becker said to him after his match-winning double for Colombia against Brazil.

On a night where his father watched him from the stands, it just had to be Diaz who was the hero in yesterday’s World Cup qualifier.

And so it proved. After Gabriel Martinelli put Brazil ahead, it looked like Colombia were heading for a disappointing loss. But with 15-minutes left, up stepped Lucho. He beat Alisson with a header, before bagging another one for the winner just four minutes later.

The Liverpool goalkeeper will have been disappointed to have been beaten twice, especially by his Reds colleague. But Alisson is a big man, and after the game Colombian outlet El Espectador spoke to Diaz about what the Brazil goalie had told him at full-time.

“Alisson told me he’s very happy because he knows what we went through,” said the 26-year-old.

“He is a great person, I admire him a lot because off the field he is a great human being and he gave me all the support I could have to be calm in those difficult moments.”

Alisson shares the love

This was an absolutely lovely moment between two teammates and friends, which was luckily caught on camera.

As posted by X account LFC Transfer Room early this morning, the two Liverpool players can be seen embracing on the pitch at full-time.

It’s a long old hug from Alisson, who could also be heard saying “Te quiero mucho amigo,” – I love you so much my friend. He’s always spoken well of Diaz, and the genuine bond between them can be seen clearly here.

Perhaps Brazilian fans won’t be best pleased to see their goalkeeper so heartily embracing the man who has just downed them. But for Liverpool fans, it’s absolutely brilliant.

If there’s one man in the Reds squad who will know exactly what Lucho has been going through over the past few weeks, it’s Alisson.

The 31-year-old’s own father, Jose, went missing back in 2021, before tragically being found drowned. Back then, Ali had the support of the whole football community, and will know just how much it will mean to Diaz to have the same.

In those moments, football is meaningless and Alisson demonstrated that perfectly with his reaction last night.

The next time Lucho is scoring on the same pitch as him, they’ll be celebrating together. What a man our goalkeeper is.
