Pep Guardiola has said that he’d be fine with selling a player to Liverpool amid reports that the Reds are interested in signing Kalvin Phillips.

Speaking to the press via the Mirror, the Manchester City manager revealed that he’d have no problems with doing business with the Anfield side if a deal worked out for all parties.

As per the report, Liverpool are interested in signing Phillips as the £42m player looks set to leave the Etihad Stadium in January having spent the last 12 months on the bench.

Whilst City fans might not want to see Phillips head to Liverpool, Guardiola seems fine with doing business with the Reds if the deal makes sense for the club and the player.

Guardiola said: “If they want to go to Chelsea or [Manchester] United or, I don’t know, Liverpool, whatever, what is the problem? They are happy to be there and the club is happy with the transfer.

“The other club is happy with the amount of money they spend, so it is fine. Another player will come to us and we keep going in a good spirit and a good mood.”

Guardiola’s comments could hint at Phillips leaving City for Liverpool

City are no strangers to selling good players to Premier League rivals, with Arsenal last year signing Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinechenko as Raheem Sterling joined Chelsea.

And Phillips could be the next player to make such a move, with Liverpool firmly in the race to sign the England international in the January window.

Moreover, Guardiola’s comments strongly suggest that a deal is now possible, with Phillips a player who could want a move to Liverpool in 2024 to reboot his career.
