Ian Wright has lauded Jurgen Klopp for backing Liverpool’s statement last month after their controversial 2-1 loss to Tottenham.
Speaking on Stick To Football, the pundit praised the Anfield boss after Mikel Arteta and Arsenal made similar moves to Klopp and Liverpool this weekend after their defeat at Newcastle United.
The Gunners lost 1-0 despite the goal being reviewed by VAR for three separate offences, with many believing Anthony Gordon’s controversial tap-in should have been ruled out.

The moment has again exploded the VAR debate in English football, with Arsenal releasing a statement of their own much like how Liverpool did after their defeat to Tottenham.
And Wright has backed Liverpool after their statement, with the pundit saying: “I’m pleased that Jurgen Klopp done that because of the gravity of the mistake and I still Mikel is well within his rights.
“I’m happy with them backing the manager [the statement]. Because we are seeing mistakes on a scale now where something has to be done.”
Wright is speaking sense over Liverpool and Arsenal debates

Premier League discourse has now reached a stage where even clubs announcing statements backing their manager’s comments are seen as ridiculous and even childish.
Which is why it is refreshing to hear a level-headed pundit like Wright speak some sense over the matter, with Liverpool and Arsenal well within their right to call out VAR mistakes and back their manager’s comments.
At the end of the day, all we want is VAR to do what it is simply there to do, something the technology has failed with massively this season in embarrassing fashion.
