Liverpool are keeping an eye on the situation of Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana.

The Reds were linked with Fofana during the summer as Jurgen Klopp completed a midfield overhaul. In the end though, the 24-year-old stayed at Monaco.

However, with the January window soon to be upon us, 90min report that Fofana is once again attracting interest from the Premier League.

Manchester United are said to be the most actively interested in the Frenchman, but Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle United also have Fofana ‘on their radar.’

The France international is reportedly not a top priority for any of that trio, mind you. Liverpool and Arsenal are both claimed to be looking for a natural No.6, and although Fofana is said to be on their lists he doesn’t appear to be prominent on them.

The Monaco man is currently due to be out of contract next summer, however the Principality club are claimed to be indicating that they will soon trigger a one-year extension.

Liverpool looking at Fofana

If it were up to Liverpool supporters, their team would definitely sign a natural holding midfielder in January.

As good as Klopp’s side have been so far this season, that’s the one position that looks like it could potentially hold them back.

Alexis Mac Allister has been doing a better job than he’s being given credit for in there. But the fact remains that the Argentine is playing out of position. He’s more useful further up the field.

That’s where Mac Allister famously played for Argentina during last winter’s World Cup final.

On the other side that day was Fofana. The Frenchman didn’t start in Doha, but he did come off the bench for the final 25 minutes of extra-time.

While Mac Allister is more of a technical, passing midfielder, Fofana looks a touch more like the traditional ‘destroyer.’

It doesn’t look like he’s Liverpool’s first choice. But with news filtering through today that a move for Andre Trindade in January looks unlikely, we’re happy to roll the dice on Youssouf.
