Jurgen Klopp might have just found Liverpool’s perfect Andy Robertson replacement

When news broke that Andy Robertson will be out for Liverpool until 2024, panic stations were activated over who could fill in at left-back.

The Scottish international has spent the majority of his time at Anfield as one of the fittest players at the club, with injuries hardly coming into effect for Robertson.

Which is why the defender being ruled out for months has come as such a problem for Liverpool, with Kostas Tsimikas the obvious replacement for Robertson in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI.

However, this weekend’s draw away to Luton Town saw a new name take up the role of left-back, with Joe Gomez getting the start in the position as Tsimikas started on the bench.

With the 26-year-old defender capable of playing at right-back, it is perhaps no real surprise that Gomez was tested out on the left with Tsimikas not impressing that greatly since Robetson’s injury.

Yet the eye test doesn’t lie, and after Gomez’s performance on Sunday, Klopp might have now just found his dream replacement for Robertson heading into 2024.

Replacing a player as important as Robertson is big task for Liverpool, yet after Sunday’s display, Gomez might have just done enough to convince Klopp that he is the man for the job.

The defender’s reputation has taken a bit of a hit in the last 12 months after some more than disappointing performances, yet this season, Gomez has looked a player reborn.

And left-back could be the defender’s new calling, with the former Charlton Athletic star impressing against Luton, giving Klopp a clear answer to his left-back dilemma.
