Darwin Nunez was shocked to see Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister’s new haircut yesterday.
Nunez has become close to Mac Allister ever since the Argentine joined him at Anfield this summer. Jurgen Klopp even recently revealed that the former Brighton man has been acting as a translator for his Uruguayan colleague.
And judging by their interaction on Instagram yesterday – as captured by Anything Liverpool on Twitter – they love to poke a bit of fun at one another.
Having posted a video of a new trim on his account, Mac Allister may have been feeling pretty good about himself.
But ever the joker, Darwin brought him back down to earth.
“What a cute baby hahaha,” wrote the striker. “What’s going on? Do you miss me?” replied Liverpool’s No.10. Wholesome.
Nunez and Mac Allister bond grows
After a slog of a season last year, it’s great to see that the closeness has returned within the Liverpool squad.
How we needed an injection of characters like Nunez and Mac Allister. Both 24, the two players hopefully represent a pair who can help to lead and forge a new culture at the club for years to come.
Of course, there are still the old heads knocking about. The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Mohamed Salah aren’t done yet.
But with numerous additions over the past few years, the core age of the squad has dropped down. Along with Mac Allister and Nunez there’s now a large group of players all around the same age.
As it did with Klopp’s first great Liverpool team, hopefully that will foster a closeness amongst the group.
As far as we can tell, Nunez is one to be talking about haircuts, though. His instantly recognisable man-bun is not to everyone’s taste.
Nevertheless, we do like to see the players having a bit of fun with each other, so we’ll let him off!
