Liverpool could now reportedly sign Kalvin Phillips on loan, with Manchester City open to shipping out the midfielder on a temporary basis.

According to TeamTalk, the reigning Premier League champions are warming to the idea of loaning out Phillips, with Juventus, Newcastle United and Tottenham all interested in the 27-year-old.

Signed for £42m last year, Phillips has hardly kicked a ball for City since making the move from Leeds United, with the England international now expected to depart the Etihad Stadium.

And Liverpool could now be a destination for the midfielder, with Phillips a player who has previously been targeted by the Reds before moving to Anfield.

Indeed, Jurgen Klopp is keen to sign a defensive midfielder in January, and Phillips could be a dream addition given his experience in the Premier League.

And now, with City open to loaning out Phillips, Liverpool can make a move to bring the 27-year-old to Merseyside, a deal that the player himself could be very open to.

Some Liverpool fans might not be so open about signing a player from a Premier League rival in City, yet Phillips might be too good an option to pass up.

The England international has shown throughout his Premier League career that he has the quality to succeed in the division, with Phillips Leeds’ best player in their recent stint in the top-flight.

And at Liverpool, Phillips can rediscover his best form, with the midfielder good enough to do a job for the Reds if they can secure a loan deal.
