Luton Town manager Rob Edwards has praised how ‘brilliant’ Liverpool’s counter-pressing was in their 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road last night.
Speaking to the Hatters’ official YouTube channel, the Luton boss was seemingly awe-struck by the tactical battle that unfolded yesterday as Liverpool came from behind to secure a late draw.
The Reds struggled all match against Luton as the newly-promoted side gave their best account yet in the Premier League, with Edwards setting out his team perfectly against Liverpool.
For the neutral, it was an enthralling game filled with narrative as Taith Chong put Luton deservedly ahead as Luis Diaz scored late on to secure a point for Liverpool.
And for Edwards, the Luton manager was impressed with what he saw from Jurgen Klopp’s side last night, with the Reds’ counter-pressing really catching the eye.
Edwards said: “I thought it was the best we’ve been, when we won the ball back we were calm under intense pressure because they’re [Liverpool] brilliant at counter-pressing.”
Liverpool know they got lucky against Luton
Liverpool had yet to put on a real stinker of a performance in the Premier League this season, and few would have expected that game to come away to Luton.
The Hatters were brilliant against the Reds as Klopp’s side struggled to match Luton’s physicality as well as their use of Kenilworth Road, which could now become a real weapon for the Bedfordshire club.
Indeed, Liverpool’s counter-pressing might have been masterful in the words of Edwards, but the Merseyside giants know that they got away with one on Sunday, and a response is needed.
