Liverpool’s predicted XI vs Luton: Jurgen Klopp brings back ‘amazing’ forward, £44m man drops to the bench

Liverpool head to Luton for the first time in almost 16 years on Sunday as they look for their third Premier League win in a row.

It’s a good opportunity for the Reds to pick up three more points, but they’ll have to wary of Luton’s appetite for a giant-killing. Here’s the XI we think Jurgen Klopp will go with at Kenilworth Road.

Defence

As usual, no qualms about the goalkeeper, having had the night off against Bournemouth on Wednesday, Alisson Becker will return here.

Two more given a rest in midweek should also return to the back four. Neither Ibrahima Konate nor Virgil van Dijk played a single minute in the Carabao Cup, which means both are likely to be on the teamsheet tomorrow.

So too is Trent Alexander-Arnold, who got a half-hour run out at Dean Court. Meanwhile Kostas Tsimikas should be given the chance to find some rhythm having played the full 90.

Midfield

With Curtis Jones now available after serving his three-game ban, Klopp has a decision to make in the midfield.

As they have done for every Premier League game this season though, we expect Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to start once again at Kenilworth Road.

It was a surprise to see Szoboszlai in from the start in the cup, but there’s little chance he doesn’t play again here.

That leaves one spot open for Klopp to decide on. And although Jones is a favourite of the boss, we think Ryan Gravenberch’s form make him the outstanding candidate.

The Dutchman deserves the opportunity to cement his place in the side.

Attack

The forward line brings more decisions for the manager to make. Two of the five scored on Wednesday, but we think they’ll have differing fortunes on the back of it.

Cody Gakpo may have found the net, but we think the £44m Dutch attacker will drop to the bench for this one.

In his place will come Darwin Nunez, who was described as ‘amazing’ by Cherries boss Andoni Iraola after his screamer midweek [Bournemouth Daily Echo].

Mohamed Salah will surely go again but in his favoured right-sided role, while we expect Diogo Jota to play from the left.

Liverpool’s predicted XI vs Luton Town: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch; Salah, Nunez, Jota
