Pep Lijnders has hinted that Ben Doak could be available for Liverpool to face AFC Bournemouth in the League Cup.

Speaking to the press, the Liverpool assistant manager revealed that the Scottish youth international was back in full training this week having picked up a muscle injury earlier in the month.

Doak missed last Thurday’s UEFA Europa League clash against Toulouse and was also absent from Jurgen Klopp’s matchday squad this weekend to face Nottingham Forest.

However, the teenager winger could now be back in the team tomorrow to face Bournemouth, with Doak a likely contender to replace Mohamed Salah out on the right in the attack.

Indeed, the 17-year-old returning to action for the trip down to the south coast would be a massive boost for Liverpool, and Lijnders has now said that Doak is back in training.

The Dutch coach said when asked about the latest on Doak’s fitness: “Ben Doak trained yesterday for the first time (since his injury). Will he be in the squad? We will see.”

Doak is easily Liverpool’s most exciting youth prospect, and the winger missing another game through injury would be a massive blow to the Scottish youngster.

Lauded as ‘special’ by Jurgen Klopp, the club and coaches are clearly massive fans of the teenage attacker, and Doak will hope he is fit enough to travel down tomorrow night to the south coast.

Even minutes off the bench would be quite the accomplishment for Doak, and the attacker will want to showcase his talents against Premier League opposition in the League Cup.
