Victor Osimhen could now reportedly begin contract talks with Napoli over a new deal despite Liverpool’s rumoured interest.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the Nigerian international has responded well to the Serie A side’s latest set of actions after last month’s controversy surrounding Osimhen.

As per the report, Napoli could soon begin contract talks with the Nigerian international as the reigning Italian giants look to sign Osimhen down to a new deal, one that could include a £150m release clause.

With Liverpool linked with a move for Osimhen, this update could be a kicker for the Reds, with the Anfield giants believed to be interested in signing the striker next year.

Indeed, Osimhen signing a new contract with Napoli would come as a big surprise for many, though given the positive mood around the forward’s camp, such a decision could be made.

As for Liverpool, Osimhen penning fresh terms with Napoli could end their interest in the striker, something that could be a blessing in disguise for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Liverpool signing Osimhen has always felt like an unlikely transfer, and this update could firmly put the nail in the coffin for the Anfield side over such a deal.

With a winger expected to be Liverpool’s main priority next summer in the event of Mohamed Salah leaving, signing a striker would make no sense for the Reds, especially one as expensive as Osimhen.

As a result, the forward signing a new deal could write Liverpool out of the race for Osimhen, something that might be a positive in the long-term.
