Former Liverpool player Steve Nicol has shared who he thinks will score more this season, Mohamed Salah or Son Heung-Min.

Both Salah and Son are seasoned goal scorers in the Premier League. They even shared the division’s Golden Boot award back in 2022.

And they’ve continued that form into this season. After nine and ten games respectively, the Liverpool man has seven goals, with the Spurs forward one ahead on eight. It’s set to be close between the two again, but speaking to ESPN FC, Nicol says that this is likely to change.

“If something happens to [James] Maddison you wonder where the supply’s coming from for Son,” says the pundit. “Whereas Salah’s supply’s from two or three areas. That’s why I say Salah [will score more], not Son.”

Son and Salah go head-to-head

With the way these two have started the Premier League season, this is a fair question to ask.

But in reality, it’s a little unfair to Salah to lump him in with the South Korean.

We don’t mean that in a disrespectful way to Son, he’s been a very consistent scorer for years now. But the fact is that the South Korean has never outscored Mo in any one season.

In 2021/22 when they shared the Golden Boot, both players bagged 23 times.

But that’s the only time Son has even come remotely close to matching, or bettering Salah in the scoring stakes.

Perhaps this season could be different. Spurs have started the season unbelievably well after all, unbeaten and top of the league after 10 games.

So has Salah, though. Even if Liverpool are slightly below the Londoners in the table, Mo has been scoring just as relentlessly as ever.

Nicol’s ESPN colleagues all agreed with him that Salah would score more than Son this season. It might be close, but the smart money should be on Mo.
