Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas was shocked to hear of Andy Robertson’s recent injury.
Robertson is set to miss the next three months of football having picked up a shoulder problem while on international duty.
Having already stepped in for the Scot last weekend, Tsimikas will deputise in the first-team until Robertson’s return.
It’s a good opportunity for the Greece international to show that he still has a long-term future at Anfield. But speaking to Sky Sports about the situation, Tsimikas admitted that it was a bittersweet moment for him.
“Always when I play I see it as a big opportunity,” said the 27-year-old. “I didn’t expect Andy to get injured.
“When they called me and told me, they expect me to be happy but I wasn’t because first of all me and Andy are good friends and also teammates. I need him and he needs me. He alone or me alone can’t play all the games because there are so many.”
Tsimikas reacts to Robertson injury
The whole of the Liverpool fanbase are likely to have shared the same reaction as Tsimikas to the Robertson injury news.
Since his arrival at the club back in 2017, the Scotland captain has barely had any issues at all.

As a result, this has meant that Tsimikas has very much had to be a back-up. He’s played a decent amount, but there has rarely been a time when Robertson has had to sit out.
Unfortunately, that’s now about to change. And it’s fair to say that Kostas will have to be better than he was last weekend at Everton.
The Greek is going to have to quickly change his mindset from Robertson’s understudy to being the main man.
We’re fully backing Tsimikas to do that. There was a period when he was arguably better than Liverpool’s No.26. Now it’s time to put the shock aside and rediscover that form.
