Liverpool’s new Anfield Road stand is still yet to have a completion date in sight.
The re-developed end of the ground was supposed to be ready in time for the start of the current season. However, issues regarding the contractors has meant things are still not complete.
And according to a report from The Athletic today, that isn’t likely to change any time soon.
They claim that ‘multiple sources’ have told them that work on the stand is likely to go on ‘well into 2024.’ There’s a prediction that Liverpool will play more than half of their home games for the season with reduced capacity.
The Athletic also confirm that the firmest update from the club is that the stand will remain closed for the rest of the calendar year. Beyond that, they are yet to make a solid committment on a date.
Work could reportedly have been carried out quicker by closing the whole stand. But considering the logistical issues of rehousing away fans elsewhere in the stadium, this was said to have been deemed a ‘non-starter.’ The wait goes on.
Liverpool fans playing the waiting game
Had this been Liverpool of three or four years ago, it’s hard to imagine things becoming the mess that they have with regards to the new stand.
Both the main stand redevelopment and the building of the AXA Training Centre pretty much went off without a hitch.
But, slightly mirroring the way things have gone on the pitch in the recent past, Liverpool just haven’t got it right with the Anfield Road end.
It’s impossible to say whether this is affecting the players or not, but the fans have every right to be upset.

After the club put tickets for the new seats up for sale for several matches, plenty are now being disappointed.
Nevertheless, this isn’t something Liverpool can afford to rush now. With a change of contractor having already taken place, all parties need to make sure things are done to the absolute safest possible standard.
So, as frustrating as it may be, supporters will have to wait for now. The good news is that things are back underway.
It will be completed at some point in 2024, and just imagine how good it’s going to look and sound then!
